An Insight into
Dalhousie

One of the most pristine hill stations in Himachal Pradesh and India, Dalhousie is named after Lord Dalhousie the British governor-General who established the town as a popular summer retreat. The town was established in 1854 by the British and is located at the western ranges of the Himalayas at an average elevation of 1,970 meters above sea level. The town is still exemplary of neatly planned streets and colonial era architecture of the buildings that are a marvel to witness amidst the lush green surroundings and snow capped peaks of the Himalayas.

Dalhousie History

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was won over by the beauty of Dalhousie, a famous tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh, so much so, that he stayed here for many months in 1937. Today, he has two places named after him - Subhash Baoli and Subhash Chowk.

The hill station has the same effect on tourists today, with its waterfalls, rivers making their way through mountains, dense forest trails that run parallel to enormous cliffs with grand views of Dauladhar range in the distance and a couple of churches that were built during the British Raj. Cafes, markest, Mall Road, those are equally convincing reasons to plan a trip to Dalhousie.

I have visited there on 01st jan 18. centre of attraction of Dalhousie trip is the Khajjiar lake trip. A big plane ground surroundindg pine tree is a such a beutifull place you will definitely like it. But the best part of this place is paragliding. if you have not ever taken this thrilling activity then you must go here. you will love the paraglidindg there. you will feel gliding like bird in a beautifull mountain range which is lifetime memory.

Khajjiar is approx 20 kms away from Dalhousie town. It has a huge grassland surrounded by forests. There is a small muddy slush in between this grassland which is referred to lake. If we overlook the lake part, then the beauty of this place is awesome. A morning walk or run around this field is refreshing. There are small food joints here at one end of the field for tea/ snacks and food. There are very few place to stay over night. Most of the tourists come to this place for a day trip however, spending night in this quiet place and get up here for a morning walk or run around this grassland is awesome experience.

Jaspreet Kaur

Khajjiar is a big grassy meadow between tall deodar trees with pleasant climate, lush green vegetation, cloud-kissed peaks and small lake in the middle and known as Switzerland of India. It is around 24 km from Dalhousie and the connecting road is surrounded by meadows and forests. Simply we sat on the benches and admired the views and weather. One can enjoy horse riding here. Paragliding, trekking and zorbing are other activities.
